role is not working

Hi,

I have done 2 roles in my analysis services project. one can see all (Role1) and the other can see only a portion of the dimension data (Role2). i tested these in analysis services browser using the Change User > Roles. They're both working ok. I tried the Change User > Current User. Supposedly, since I assigned my domain name in Role 2, I should be able to see only a portion of the data. But then, I could still see all. I also tried calling my cube from excel. Still, I could see everything..

Have I missed to set anything for this to work? Before I tested, I had processed the whole project...

You are probably also a server administrator if you are creating roles. Security is not applied to server administrators (you could give yourself any rights anyway). Try testing the role with a different account.sql

Does anyone has any suggestions when building a ROLAP Cube? should I go with
ROLAP or go MOLAP with analysis Services? which one is better?

JairoIt's usually better to go with MOLAP as it's much faster but will require
more disk space for storing the cube (fact and dimension data).
ROLAP will be slower as the user is basically executing SQL queries againt
the underlying relational database when slicing and dicing.

This question pertains to Reporting Services 2000.

3 in the article.
Can someone help me with the 4th?

Prashant Kumar [MSFT]Through the report manager, if you have subscriptions set up, you
should be able to go to http://<server>/Reports and click on "My
Subscriptions" in the upper right hand corner. The url
http://<server>/Reports/Pages/Subscriptions.aspx should work also.
You can click on the "Edit" hyperlink on each subscription. This will
bring you to the page to edit the subscription. Then you can scroll
down to the bottom and save it.

stop the service he gets a message "Access Denied", so can anyone guide

Rights to start SQL services

Hi all,
In my ongoing PAIN of SOX, I am in the middle of SA DBA split of duties.
I have 2 different accounts that start my SQL Services, I have one account
that starts SQL server service and another to start SQL agent. I know these
accounts need to have SA rights to the server. Is there a way to revoke
rights in the individual databases? As SA even if I maunaully revoke the
delete rights to a table I can still log on as them and delete records.

sysadmins. Sysadmin members can perform any action in SQL
Server and bypass any denies you may set up.

Rights Issue(?) with Oracle Reports

we are experiencing a very strange behaviour with reporting services.
- Some of our reports use an oracle db
- when a normal user ( not an admin) calls these reports for the first time
he gets the following message after about 20 seconds:
Original:
Fehler bei der Berichtsverarbeitung. (rsProcessingAborted) Onlinehilfe
Es kann keine Verbindung zur Datenquelle 'DataSource1' hergestellt werden.
(rsErrorOpeningConnection) Onlinehilfe
Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are
supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or
later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until
these components are installed.
Roughly Translated:
Error Processing Report (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot connect to datasource 'DataSource1' (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are
supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or
later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until
these components are installed.
- Now the user calls the admin, and tells him the report does not work. the
admin clicks on the report, and for him it works.
when the user calls the report it works and will work for all users! after a
few hours it will not work anymore, and the admin would have to click ist

we can reproduce this error by rebooting the machine.
- Reports using sql-server work fine, always. we have allready tried using
an ole db connection instead of an oracle connection, to no avail.
installing sp1 did not help either.
Any suggestions? I'm quite stumped to be honest.

client. I have heard that it does not specify that is is necessary but it
is.
2. Turn off the worker process recycle setting in IIS. This will make sure
that it will keep working once it has started.

configuration settings which are stored in the Oracle client installation
directory. For instance, the Oracle 8.1.7 client is typically installed at:
C:\oracle\ora81
Users executing reports need to have "Read & Execute" permissions at least
on \oracle\ora81\bin and \oracle\ora81\network\admin. Both directories
contain important DLLs and configuration settings. Make sure the Read &
Execute permissions are applied to all files (child objects) in those
directories (on Win2003 on the directory security tab you have to click on
the Advanced button and in the new popup window you have to select "Replace
permission entries on all child objects ..." and click OK).
If it still does not work, then try to give the users Read & Execute
permissions on the entire Oracle client installation directory.

Right To Left in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

Hello!
I wonder is there a way to display reports in 'Right To Left' direction,
for languages like Hebrew?
Is there any property or style option to achieve this?
Lack of this functionality makes Reporting Services very useless for our
organisation... :(

Rich Textbox Value in Reporting Services Report

I am looking to create a a report that displays a value that has been
saved to a database using a rich text box (Infragistics
WebHtmlEditor). The database (SQL server) value is a string that
contains HTML markup (ex: <strong>test</strong>). Is it possible for
reporting services to parse this markup and display the formatted text

I am trying to produce a report using MS SQL Server Reporting Services that
will include data that is stored as Rich Text Format.
If I use a regular TextBox, Reporting Services displays all of the RTF
escape codes around the text.
Do you know of a way to get the text out of a Rich Text Field within either
a SQL Server stored procedure or through an add-in to Reporting Services?Reporting Services currently does not support rich text. The best you can do
at the moment is to write some code to convert the rich text to plain text.
Support for rich text is a high priority for the next version (the version
after SQL Server 2005.)

Reverting from SP2 to SP1

Hi all,
If i have installed SP2 for reporting services and need to revert back to
Reporting Services with SP1. Is this possible without inplications?
Am i able to remove SP2 and reinstall SP1 and have the normal functioanlity
of SP1 or would i have problems. If anyone has tried this please let me know
of your findings

3.5 Removing SP2
To revert to the version that you were running before installing SP2, you
must uninstall Reporting Services and then reinstall it without applying
SP2 afterwards. There is no separate uninstall program for SP2. If you
applied a Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) fix to your RTM or SP1 Reporting
Services installation, you must reapply that QFE fix to the instance. To
uninstall Reporting Services, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Note that the report server database, upgraded to the SP2 format, is not
removed when you uninstall the product. You must manually remove the SP2
version of the report server database and restore the version that was part
of the pre-SP2 installation.

Reverse full name

Hello all,
I have a SQL db that stores first & last names in one field (i.e. John Doe).
Does anybody know how to get reporting services to show the name as
lastname, firstname?
Thanks.you could create a temp table in the SQL, then use a function to get the
first part of the string, everything up to the space for example.
Then use another function to get the last part of the string to get the last
name. You can then combine them into a single field with the last name first.

Is it possible to set this in Analysis Services 2005?

I am going against an oracle number and Analysis Services is picking Double as the datatype but it is not working?

I am getting the following as the error- 'Errors in the high-level relational engine. The following exception occurred while the managed IDataReader interface was being used: Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow..'

If I cast the column to number(28) it works which is the size of system.decimal

Moved to SQL Server Analysis Services forum.

For AS group -- ReturnProviderSpecificTypes is a setting on the DataAdapter that allows the DataReader to return column types that more closely align with the underlying backend types, rather than standard CLR types. For example, OracleNumber instead of Decimal or Double.

What provider you are using to connect to Oracle?

You have 2 options: Microsoft OLEDB provider and .NET native Oracle client.

If you are using one, try the second option, see if it works for you.
